Targeting the Buzz: 2026 Mosquito Surveillance Begins
The North Morrow Vector Control District is officially back in the field. Starting in mid-May, our team will be deploying surveillance traps across Boardman and Irrigon to keep our neighborhoods safe, healthy, and itch-free.
The Mission: We monitor the Culex mosquito—the primary carrier of West Nile virus. By tracking their numbers, we can act fast to protect the community.
How it Works:
- Set & Collect: Traps go out in the late afternoon and are gathered the following morning.
- The Lab Phase: Every mosquito is speciated and counted in our local lab.
- Testing: Samples are sent to the Oregon State Veterinary Lab to screen for virus activity.
Weekly Update: Check back every Friday throughout the season (May–September) for the latest trap data and local trends.
